| One of the main
reasons I enjoy making Evergreen nets is because they so elegantly
showcase the strength, resiliency and natural beauty of wood. I am
dedicated to the protection and preservation of this precious
resource for its own sake as well as for the profound effect our
forests have on our total environment and quality of life.
Wood is a renewable
resource. With proper forest management, we will have wood to use
and the forests will thrive indefinitely into the future. As proper
forest management is lacking in some parts of the world, I shun the
tropical exotic wood varieties and use only native North American
species so as not to contribute to the continuing depletion of the
world’s shrinking tropical rain forests. I search for and collect
old cabinetry, furniture and trim pieces with suitable wood figure
and reuse them for my nets to the greatest extent that I can. My
shop has a small “footprint”, uses little energy, and my products
and byproducts are totally biodegradable. The wood finishes I use
are the most environmentally friendly that I can find.
I mention all these things
to demonstrate and persuade that environmental responsibility is
something we all need to be aware of. It is not incompatible with
high quality products and efficient business practices. It ensures
our future wellbeing.
I encourage
environmentally concerned buyers of Evergreen nets to send me
suitable old wood that I can recycle into a custom net for
them. You will feel good about it and I will also.
