The Evergreen workshop is located in the rolling hills of upstate
New York. The countryside is a checkerboard of hardwood forests and
farm land and provides an abundant supply of domestic hardwoods
including maple, cherry, black walnut, ash, and oak. Local rivers
and streams provide ample opportunity to “field test” our various
nets on brook trout to steel head.
Evergreen nets are not mass-produced in a factory. Each net is
individually handcrafted starting with the raw wood stock and
carrying through to the finished product. Fine workmanship is the
rule – it is the only way we make nets. We start with straight
grained, hardwood stock, both new and reclaimed, from which we cut strips for lamination to
form the very sturdy net hoop. We choose wood varieties with
complementary coloration. The wood for the handle core is carefully
selected for coloration and richly figured, distinctive grain pattern. Each net is
finish sanded until it is glass smooth. It is sealed, and then
multiple
coats of finish are applied. The final step is hand buffing to
bring out a beautiful sheen to the protective finish. The “fish friendly” net bags
are attached and the net is ready for the stream. Each is unique
-
each will be a pleasure to own and to use for years to come.
