| If you have suitable
old wood - furniture, cabinetry, trim - that you would like recycled
into your Evergreen net - send it to me. I can quickly
determine if it is useable. All wood must be of a hardwood
variety, such as cherry, maple, walnut, oak, and others, and
in sound condition. The wood I use for net making must fit the
structural requirements for one of two net components
Laminated net hoop - To make the
laminated hoop I cut strips, steam bend them and glue them together.
This part of the net must be strong and flexible. Wood stock
for this purpose must be straight, with straight parallel grain, at least 5 feet
long and 1 inch thick - and wide enough for me to work with to cut
strips.
Handle core - The handle core is the
interior part of the net handle. Rather than straight grain
strength as with the net hoop, what is desired here is a "figured"
grain pattern that will provide unique beauty to the net. Of
course, the handle core can be cut from the same piece of straight
grained wood used for the net hoop but just may not look as
decorative as a handle core cut from a figured piece of wood.
Wood stock for the core must be at least 12 inches long, 5 inches
wide and 1 inch thick.
If your wood is from old furniture and has a
finish on it, I can plane the old finish off. If you have a
piece of decorative wood you would like used for the handle core but
do not have a piece suitable for the net hoop - I can use your wood
for the core and my wood for the hoop. If recycling sounds
attractive to you, contact me to discuss.
